About

I am a Political Scientist turned Data Scientist with a passion for all things related to computers, Big Data, and the Internet. These things we take for granted are nothing short of magic and can be used to create awesome things.

The rise of computers and the Internet is the single most important development of the second half of the XX th century, which went on to shape every aspect of our lives. At the same, this massive change was championed by a handful of geeks, engineers and hackers who have left behind some amazing stories. In this blog I want to tell these stories and share them with more people. This contents of this blog will reflect my broader research I do for the Big Data course I teach in Vilnius University and other research projects I undertake with my colleagues.

In my professional journey I started out as a ‘classical’ political scientist carrying out research on political institutions and how they evolved over time. In my research I worked with data and quantitative research methods and from there ca 2016 I started transitioning into Machine Learning and Data Science.

As luck would have it, this perfectly coincided to a broader digital transformation taking place at the research institute I was working in. This gave me a chance to surf this wave and learn a little bit of everything: natural language processing (NLP), Big Data, computing in the cloud, networking, security and more. Finally, over the last few years, me and my colleagues have been working on turning what was a Data Science Department in a larger organization into a stand-alone start-up company, which has given me yet another vantage point into the world of IT.

I hope I’ll succeed in translating my expertise into insightful and interesting stories – happy reading!
